Air travel to Maribor




Air travel to Maribor and Slovenia is really easy! You first need to get to London. There is a direct Ryanair flight from London Stansted airport in England (STN) to Graz in Austria (GRZ) which is just a 30 minute drive away from Maribor. You can also fly to Ljubljana (LJU) with EasyJet from London Stansted or Adria Airways from London Gatwick. Ljubljana is then only an hour drive from Maribor.

Notes

  • Checked-in baggage - 1 piece allowed per person. There are two options, you can take 1 bag - max 15kg and pay €15 or £15 or 1 bag - max 20kg and pay €25 or £25;

  • Carry on baggage or cabin bagagge can weight max 10kg (22lbs). Max size of the bag is 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Extra oversized cabin baggage will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of €35 or £35;

  • Infants do not qualify for a cabin baggage allowance although a pram/buggy will be carried free of charge;

  • Ryanair will charge £20 or €20 for every kg exceeding 15kg or 20kg allowance (at the airport);

  • Any liquids, gels, pastes, lotions and liquid cosmetics MUST be presented at the airport passenger security point in a transparent re-sealable bag of no more then 1 liter capacity (e.g. 20cm x 20cm zip lock freezer bag). Only gels, pastes, lotions and liquid cosmetics in containers of 100ml or less will be permitted through the passenger security screening points at all EU/EEA Airports. There is a limit of one transparent re-sealable plastic bag per person;

  • Priority boarding costs €4 or £4;

  • Web check in costs €6 or £6.

  • Checked-in baggage - 1 piece allowed per person (20 kg). It costs £10 per bag. Every excess baggage per kilo costs €12 or £10;

  • You are allowed to have one hand baggage to a volume limit of 56x45x25cm (including wheels and pockets). If these exceed permissible dimensions you will need to pay a fee of £30.00 per bag per flight. No weight restriction applies within reasonable limits;

  • If you have more than 1 piece of hand luggage, you will be charged a fee of £30.00 for each additional hand luggage per flight;

  • Speedy boarding costs £11.00 per passenger;

  • Sports equipment cost £18.50 per item;

  • You can take liquids on board in containers not bigger than 100ml in re-sealable plastic bag with maximum dimensions of 20cm x 20cm;

  • Things you can take on board in addition to your one piece of hand luggage are: one jacket/overcoat, umbrella, guide dogs, walking frames and crutches.

    Air travel London Gatwick-Ljubljana-London Gatwick (Adria Airways)

  • Checked-in baggage - 1 piece allowed per person (20kg);

  • Carry on baggage (55 x 40 x 23 cm). The maximum allowable weight of carry-on luggage is 8 kg;

  • For each kg of additional luggage (or excees baggage) you will need to pay additional fee.


    • ZONE 1 (€6): between Slovenia and Germany, Switzerland, Austria, BIH, Macedonia, Albania, Netherlands, Serbia

    ZONE 2 (€8): between Slovenia and Great Britain, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Spain, France, Belgium, Montenegro, Turkey, Spain, Poland

    ZONE 3 (€10): between Slovenia and Russia, Ukraine

    On the other hand Maribor and Slovenia are within two hours to two other international airports:
  • 70 miles or 2 car-hours away is Zagreb (ZAG) airport (WiZZair flight from London Luton);

  • 116 miles or 2 car-hours away is Klagenfurt (KLU) airport (Ryanair flight from London Stansted).


    • Even the airports in Vienna-Austria (VIE) and Trieste-Italy (TRS) are only 150 miles or 2 and a half car-hours away so possibilities are really great.

    Because of this brilliant connectivity with London airports air travel to Slovenia is relatively easy. To make planning easier I have put together plans for air travel to London from some major destinations in North America.

    Graz airport is only half an hour drive away from Slovenian border and Maribor but rent-a-car is definitely the most convenient option if planning to explore Slovenia, Austria and beyond. As I already said, booking your car online before arriving is by far the most convenient option. The second best option is to take a taxi (approx. €60 from Graz airport to Maribor). You can also take a train from Graz to Maribor. There is a possibility to take a train from the airport but with only three direct trains per day this may prove inconvenient.

    Ljubljana airport is pretty much the same. The best option is rent-a-car though you can take a taxi to Ljubljana railway station (it takes about 25 minutes and costs approx. €40) or a bus (every hour weekdays and every two hours during weekends, one way ticket costs 4.10 EUR) and then continue your journey to Maribor by train. Please, bear in mind that this is an ordinary busy local bus with many stops and the journey takes some 50 minutes.

    There is also a shuttle connection between Ljubljana city and Ljubljana airport. The journey time is about 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver. The entry point for the shuttle is at Ljubljana bus station - Adria Airways terminal.
