Air travel from North America
Air travel to Maribor is
easy if you first land at one of the
airports in London-England or other major European airports. The cheapest
way of getting to Maribor from England is air
travel from Stansted airport.
However, let us go through
several possibilities in order to make transfers as swift as possible.
Air travel directly to Stansted airport
American
Airlines operate a direct route from New York JFK to Stansted. This is as far
as we can tell the only direct route to Stansted from North America since
MAXjet filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on 24 December 2007 and EOS a year later.
Direct flights to Slovenia
from European airports
Of course there is a great
chance many people will fly to other London airports or other European
destinations. You can fly to Ljubljana, Slovenia 7 days a week from London
Gatwick with Adria Airways,
the Slovenian national air carrier. In total Adria currently fly to 27
European destinations including:
-
Birmingham (UK; Wednesdays,
1 flight per week)
-
Manchester (UK; Wednesdays
and Saturdays, 2 flights per week)
-
Dublin (Ireland; Saturdays
only, 1 flight per week)
-
Frankfurt (Germany; daily,
25 flights per week)
-
Munich (Germany; daily, 26
flights per week)
-
Vienna (Austria; daily, 28
flights per week)
-
Brussels (Belgium; daily,
19 flights per week)
-
Paris Charles de Gaulle
(France; daily, 14 flights per week)
Air travel via London
Heathrow airport
There are several ways to
get a transfer from London Heathrow to London Stansted. It is always
possible to get a taxi and that is particularly convenient for larger
families and groups as transfers from one London airport to another cost
roughly:
-
approx. £80-£140
(€90-€156), (up to 3 people and 3 pieces of luggage)
-
approx. £160 (€180),(up to 8 people and 16 pieces of luggage)
These fares are
indicative only so you should always check for any changes before departing
However, taxi might not
always be the best option so I've put together some more options:
Option #1
There are two direct ways
from Heathrow to Stansted. You can either take a cab or a National Express bus
from the central bus station at Heathrow if you arrive at terminals 1, 2 or
3. The bus journey costs £22 (€25) one way or £28 (€31.5) return and takes roughly 90 to 120
minutes but it is advisable to leave at least 4 hours between the two
flights (highways around London often suffer from traffic jams).
Total time: 2-4 hours
Cost: £22 (€25)one way or
£28 (€31.5)
return
These fares are
indicative only so you should always check for any changes before departing

The comments in the above tables are for weekdays only.
Weekends are less likely to be affected by congestion but even then it's
better to take into account the stated weekday times!.
Option #2
You can take the London underground (the
Tube) at Heathrow to King's Cross St. Pancras station which takes
approximately 1 hour and then change for a Circle line, Hammersmith & City
line or Metropolitan line (all Eastbound) to get to Liverpool Street Station
- £4 (€4.3) for a single fare. You can then hop on the Stansted
Express train which costs £18 (€19.5) for a one
way ticket and takes approximately 45 minutes.
Total time: 2-3 hours
(including waiting time and walking)
Option #3
You can also take the
Heathrow Express train that will take you to Paddington station
in 15 minutes and the standard one way ticket is £16.50(€18) or £32 (€34.7) return.
The next step is to get to
Liverpool Street station from Paddington in order to catch Stansted
Express to Stansted airport. The Tube is the best option
in this case.
There are two lines from
Paddington to Liverpool Street. Circle line (Eastbound) and
Hammersmith & City Line (Westbound). This journey will take
approximately 30 to 40 minutes. A single tube ticket is £4.00 (daily travel
card £7.20) for 1st and 2nd
zone (enough to get you to Liverpool street station). From here you take the Stansted Express to Stansted airport.
Total time: 1.5-2 hours
(including waiting time and walking)
Air travel via London
Gatwick airport
The options are pretty much
similar to those for air travel via Heathrow although Gatwick is further away from Stansted
so the prices are higher. Taxi fares from Gatwick to Stansted are roughly:
-
£135 (€147) Gatwick to Stansted,
up to 4 people and 3 pieces of luggage
-
£230 (€252) Gatwick to Stansted,
up to 8 people and 16 pieces of luggage
-
£275 (€301) Gatwick to Stansted,
up to 12 people and 16 pieces of luggage
-
£330 (€361) Gatwick to Stansted,
up to 16 people and 16 pieces of luggage
These fares are
indicative only so you should always check for any changes before departing
Additional options for a
transfer from Gatwick to Stansted:
Option #1
There are two direct ways
from Gatwick to Stansted. You can either take a taxi or a National Express bus
from the Gatwick's North or South terminals. The bus journey costs £29.80
(€32.60) one way or £34 (€37) return and takes roughly 3 hours but it is advisable to leave at least 6 hours between the two
flights (highways around London often suffer from traffic jams).
Total time: 3-5 hours

You can also take the

The next step is to get to
Liverpool Street station from Victoria station in order to catch Stansted
Express to Stansted airport. The Tube is the best option
in this case and you should get a Circle line (Westbound). This

Total time: 2 hours
(including waiting time and walking)
These timetables and fares
are indicative only so you should always check for any changes before
departing to avoid confusion. However, you can approximately calculate from
the above the amount of time you have and decide which of the options is
most suitable.
Perhaps you plan staying in
London for a while and then visiting Maribor. If that is so air travel to
this cute little medieval city becomes even easier as you only need to get
an airport transfer to Stansted.
